Sweet success: Nansha's corn fields thrive with unique varieties

On May 11, an event focusing on corn excellence and best practices was held at the corn fields of Fengma No 2 village in Hengli town, Nansha district, Guangzhou.

At the peak of corn harvest season, Fengma No 2 village planted five high-quality and in-demand corn varieties across approximately 80 mu (5.33 hectares) of corn fields.

The "Snow White" corn variety stands out with its milky white kernels, offering a crispy and sweet taste. It has low starch content, rich dietary fiber, and a sugar content exceeding 18 percent, which is 1.5 times higher than common sweet corn varieties. Another distinctive variety, the "Black Beauty", is rich in anthocyanins, displaying deep purple kernels. It is a healthy type of sweet corn, abundant in resistant starch, proteins, vitamins, and trace nutrients.

Fengma No 2 village has been dedicated to sweet corn cultivation for many years. Starting last year, it began experimenting with new superior varieties, achieving significant economic and social benefits. This year, it has expanded the cultivation area and diversified sales channels to meet the demands of the residents.

With the support of the Nansha ministry of agriculture and rural affairs, Hengli town has introduced several distinctive fresh sweet corn varieties and promoted green and efficient cultivation techniques. The Xingsheng Sweet Corn Specialized Cooperative signed agreements with various organizations to boost the development of the corn industry, injecting new vitality into rural vitalization efforts.
