Yulu melons, an imported cantaloupe variety, are grown using a rare aerosol cultivation method in Guangzhou's Nansha district, local media outlets reported on Jan 10.

These melons began to be planted locally in Nansha in September, 2023, and the first batch of fruits was launched in December. The sales have been exceptional.

The cultivation of Yulu melon is an innovative agricultural approach that comes with higher costs. This advanced technology contributes to the cultivation of superior-quality fruits, thereby resulting in higher market prices.

Upon reaching full maturity, the luscious Yulu melons, cultivated within the greenhouse of Nansha Pearl Agricultural Park, dangle from the vines. Researchers have developed an independent nutrient solution, enhancing the flavor profile of Yulu melons. The pollution-free environment, maintained by constant temperature and humidity in the greenhouse, ensures superior quality of honeydew melons with a fruit rate of approximately 60 percent.

The cultivation process spans four months, taking three months for melons maturation and an additional month for disinfecting cultivation grooves and maintaining greenhouse facilities. Yulu melons undergo three planting cycles a year, with a preliminarily estimated annual output of around 50,000 kilograms.
