The plaque unveiling ceremony for Huawei's new innovation center for artificial intelligence in Guangzhou's Nansha was held on April 27, attracting nearly 1,000 attendees.
The center was jointly built by the administrative committee of the Nansha Economic and Technological Development Zone and Chinese global tech giant Huawei.
It will cluster technologies and resources from Huawei in areas such as cloud computing, AI, big data and the industrial internet – in a development expected to empower local companies in Nansha and to help turn Nansha into an advanced national AI innovation hub.
A cooperation contract signed by both sides in December 2020 set out that an AI cloud platform would be built in Nansha. It is expected to facilitate cooperation in sectors such as the demonstrative application of AI and the industrial internet, the construction of an industry hub for AI and the creation of a recruitment and personnel training system.
Huawei is scheduled to expand work with its partners to give full play to its own advantages and Nansha's preferential policies in developing AI, to boost AI industry development in Nansha.
Nansha district has reportedly been devoting great efforts in developing the AI industry in recent years. Currently, the district has attracted more than 300 AI companies with independent core technologies, including CloudWalk Technology and Pony AI.
Ma Yue, executive vice president of Huawei Enterprise Business Group (EBG), said that Huawei EBG has been dedicated to promoting the digital transmission of government and companies since its foundation 10 years ago. Ma added that Huawei will play an active role in Nansha, to support the development of digital new infrastructure and to better serve local government and companies.
