The administrative committee of the Nansha Development Zone is pushing ahead with the construction of a future city that will integrate advanced technologies such as 5G and AI, according to local officials.
They said it signed strategic cooperation contracts on Dec 24 with companies -- including China Mobile, China Southern Power Grid and GAC Group -- to jointly build a demonstration zone for the intelligent use of urban space in Nansha's Pearl Bay.
"Building the demonstration zone is one of the major initiatives taken by Nansha to push forward the construction of smart city," said Xie Ming, executive deputy mayor of Nansha district.
Xie said the zone will be the first special intelligent database integrating cloud technology, 5G and artificial intelligence at the city level in China.
Xie added that Nansha will continue to work with companies to apply the most advanced technologies in deepening the construction of the smart city, turning Nansha into a benchmark in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The construction of the demonstration zone in Nansha is expected to push forward the application of 5G and space intelligent technologies in urban scenarios -- spanning digital management of communications infrastructure, digital twin city construction, emergency rescues, as well as intelligent cultural tourism.
Officials said that to date, Nansha has installed nearly 3,000 5G base stations, realizing full coverage of 5G signals in the main urban areas of the district.
