Xu Chenbo, senior manager of the US Green Building Council, said that it was really impressive that Hengli Island put forward the goals of controlling the per capita carbon emissions below four metric tons a year on average and increasing the renewable energy supply ratio to eight percent.
"The number of carbon emissions is even lower than that in cities with strong international competitiveness like Washington DC," added Xu.
The judging committee of LEED also spoke highly of Hengli's initiatives in areas such as its full application of a sponge city management model and its construction of a green waste management system.
