The Lingshan Island area in Guangzhou's Nansha has entered the top-four list out of 119 competitors for this year's Paulson Prize for Sustainability under the category of Green Innovation in September.
The overall planning of the Lingshan Island area firmly adheres to sustainable development goals, with green ecological construction concepts incorporated and showcased in various areas spanning urban transportation construction, energy, green architecture, and sponge cities.
Lingshan Island has been built into an ecological area that allows residents to enjoy close access to water as it has applied measures like green landscaping and multi-stage platforms to create an open space that integrates water coasts and urban spaces.
The rich river resources have been made full use of in the construction to form a healthy drainage system.
A recycling and treatment center for construction waste was created in the area, increasing the utilization rate of construction waste to more than 80 percent.
Launched by the Paulson Institute in 2013, the Paulson Prize for Sustainability has formed partnerships with Tsinghua University since 2017. The prize is rewarded once a year to the winner who provides an innovative, scalable, and market-based solution at the intersection of economics and the environment.
