Nansha to extend high-quality secondary school

Updated: 2020-03-18

Guangzhou’s Nansha district announced an environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the Guangzhou Foreign Language School construction project (phase II) on March 10.

The EIA report reveals that the school plans to increase enrollment by 3,000 students, including 1,800 from Guangzhou, 1,000 children of foreign personnel and 200 foreign exchange students. At the same time, 375 faculty members will be added to meet those increased demands.

The project plans to expand from the southeast, southwest, and north of the existing campus from May to next October.

According to the announcement, the school is seeking public opinions on project location, environmental protection measures and other related environmental issues by phone, letter, fax, or email.

Guangzhou Foreign Language School is a full-time boarding secondary school in Nansha directly run by the Guangzhou Municipal Education Bureau. In January 2010, the rehabilitation project of the school (phase I) was completed, and currently the school has 2,298 students and 202 teachers.

It also has several teaching buildings, comprehensive buildings, libraries and student dormitories, and a construction area of up to 49,000 square meters.

The phase II expansion project is badly needed to satisfy the growing educational needs of Guangzhou and Nansha.

With a total investment of 432.05 million yuan ($61.75 million), the project will cover an area of 77,021 sq m, and consist of 13 buildings -- four domestic teaching buildings, two domestic experimental buildings, two foreign teaching buildings, one cafeteria, three dormitory buildings, and one international exchange center, as well as sports fields.

Notably, the experimental buildings are divided into two functional areas -- basic laboratories and psychological laboratories. The basic laboratories, home to physics, biology, chemistry, information technology and language, will meet the needs of teaching and some students’ research and experimental learning.
