Kong Peiwen, a post-1995s medical staff from Guangzhou’s Nansha district, has impressed the local residents with her smile during the battle against the coronavirus pneumonia epidemic.
When she heard about the epidemic outbreak, she signed up to fight at the front line in Wuhan. The newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily reported her story, and hailed her as one of the “Most Beautiful Heroes/Heroines in Harm’s way”.

Looking at the imprints on her face caused by the protective suit, the girl said, “It’s ugly! I feel sorry for myself.”
She added that the protective clothing, which is soaking and wet after several hours, gives her a feeling as though taking a sauna. When she bends to hold something, she can smell her sweat. Frequently, her goggles start to fog when she squats down.
In the afternoon of Feb 19, the leaders of the district visited Kong’s house and expressed condolences to her parents.
Kong’s mother Liang Liucai said that she was very worried at first, but backed up her decision.
Kong’s aunt said that Kong had been independent ever since she was a child. She felt she would be able to complete the front-line work well and that her family would wait for her to return safely.
“When Spring blossoms, I will come back home,” said Kong.
Another two medical workers who are fighting the virus in Wuhan also impressed Nansha.
