Guangzhou: new pneumonia cases reported

Twenty-seven new cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus were confirmed over the 24 hour period of Feb 3, Guangzhou said, including nine in Yuexiu district, six in Haizhu district and four in Baiyun district.

Tianhe, Panyu and Zengcheng districts each found two cases; Huadu and Nansha districts reported one apiece. There have now been eight cases confirmed in Nansha.

The Nansha patient is identified as a 62 year-old woman. She is receiving treatment at the Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou, and is now in stable condition.

All the 24 housing estates and places with which the newly-confirmed patients were associated have already been strictly disinfected, while their close contacts have been traced and placed under medical observation, according to the local disease prevention and control department.

People are advised to cope with the evolving situation by showing more consideration and less panic.

As of 0:00 on Feb 4, 216 confirmed infections had been identified in the city. They show a big age range, from 1 to 85 years old.

The number of cases in Guangdong province as a whole is 797. There are also 180 suspected cases and 2,999 close contacts under isolation and observation in hospital.
