Guangzhou’s Nansha district recently approved the construction of the Nansha-Zhongshan Highway project, which is attracting attention as a connecting route to the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge.
The construction is expected to connect Guangzhou with Zhongshan -- another city in South China’s Guangdong province -- and will further improve the transport network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The project, undertaken by the Guangzhou Expressway Co, is estimated to have an investment cost of 19.44 billion yuan ($2.77 billion). It is set to be completed by 2025.
Winding through 32.4 kilometers, the planned expressway is designed as a two-way road with six lanes, and will have a speed limit of 100 km per hour.
It consists of two parts: a westward main road and a southward branch line that converge in Nansha. Both parts are designed to be bridge structures, with nine interchanges and supporting facilities scattered along the routes.
When finished, it will effectively enhance the traffic capacity of the district and contribute significantly to Nansha’s external links in the Bay Area.
The district, lying at the geographic center of the Bay Area, will lead to core cities in all directions by projects including Nansha Port, Nansha-Zhongshan Highway and Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge in the future.
