Selection sees close civilian-military ties

Updated: 2019-12-17

The local media of Guangzhou’s Nansha district announced the results for the selection of the most beautiful ex-servicemen, military spouses, and “Double Support” practitioners on Dec 10.

“Double Support” is short for the administrative effort to strengthen ties between the army and civilian communities. The selection competition collected more than 200,000 votes within five days, which was seen as a good response to the call.

The district’s Party Secretary Cai Chaolin met with the 18 selectees at the publishing ceremony, and sent wishes and thanks to them.

The ensuing evening party gathered more than 600 delegates and their family and friends. They reviewed the winners’ stories in video clips. Singing and dancing performances added to the festivities.

The 18 stories included a firefighter taking charge of emergency rescue work, a public security officer struggling against a knife-wielding robber, a poverty-alleviation cadre trying his best to help the poor, and an entrepreneur supporting the job security of ex-servicemen.

Nansha is reinforcing efforts to support the security system for ex-servicemen, aiding their employment and entrepreneurship.

It launched a district-level service center and nine township service stations this year. In addition, 10,003 families received honorary plates.
