Guangzhou’s Nansha district plans to construct a state-level demonstration zone for autonomous driving and intelligent transportation, with investment exceeding 9.6 billion yuan ($1.36 billion).
The testing base will be located on 237 hectares of land in the Qingsheng Hub Cluster, according to a document issued on the website of the Guangzhou Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.
Both short-term and long-term solutions are being provided to meet development needs of different phases.
The floor area was adjusted to 222.54 hectares in the short-term planning, 70.95 hectares larger than before. Gross floor area is reduced to 1.72 million square meters.
In addition, the road traffic system also needs to be reframed to guarantee the base’s security. Construction of some segments will be suspended for the time being.
The Provincial Development and Reform Commission announced that this intelligent transportation demonstration program is one of the key preliminary projects of 2019.
When the testing base is ready to be used, a long-term plan will be launched which will match industry developments.
