Guangzhou’s Nansha district, well-developed in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and thriving as a state-level new zone and pilot free trade zone, is becoming an ever-more important location in South China.
In the past year, Nansha has grown by leaps and bounds into a green and smart area through renewal of urban villages and Pearl Bay Area construction, with voluntary service contributions from Party members.
Renovation of the two urban villages Jinzhou and Chongwei has entered a new phase, which when completed will make the district an even better place to live.
“Jinzhou and Chongwei are old villages with 150 years of history where the local residents lived on the Jinzhouchong River. As time went by, it became the last isolated island in the livable city,” said Zhou Chunsong, Party chief of Jinzhou village.
Taking the traditional cultural landscape into consideration, the renovation plan will foster a beautiful and comfortable waterside living environment by constructing sewage treatment facilities, high-quality residential and commercial buildings, and a modern kindergarten.
The Pearl Bay Area, Nansha’s central business district, will embrace eco-friendly development by promoting green transportation, green construction and a green drainage system.
“Green transportation” refers to a slow traffic network that greenlights low-carbon modes of travel, and in which green trips will account for no less than 70 percent of all traffic modes within the area by 2020.
“Green Construction” means to reuse and recycle construction waste at a rate of 80 percent.
There will also be an expedited drainage system to protect the district from flooding even on stormy days.
In addition, Party members took an active part in voluntary activities offering production mode and life style counseling or policy interpretation to the residents, conveying a feeling of home-based warmth.
The district, possessing over 170 AI enterprises, will continue to develop intelligent manufacturing and marine and new-generation information technologies to become an intelligence-geared smart city.
