Updated: 2019-10-15

Guangzhou’s Nansha New District recently publicized a second environmental impact statement for urban planning of its Qingsheng cluster.

The cluster, with a planned land area stretching 7.98 square kilometers, is expected to play pivotal roles as a scientific and technological innovation node of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, an artificial intelligence demonstration zone, and a north hub of the Nansha district, according to the statement.

On the one hand, it is ready to highlight the research and development chain in order to become an innovation town. The focus of specific industries will shift as development proceeds and the industry structure will show diversified tendencies.

A great deal of importance will be attached to the development of AI and AI plus industries in the initial stage.

In addition, multiple industries will be cultivated to comply with the integral development of Guangzhou and Nansha district including international commerce and trade, education and training, Industry 4.0 (information technology-oriented industry) and productive services (an emerging sector of the support manufacturing industry).

On the other hand, the cluster plans to cooperate with nearby Dongchong Town to forge a cluster-center in the northern part of the district by enhancing productive services and improving residential facilities.

Qingsheng is mainly engaged in innovative industries while Dongchong is bent on living facilities.

The employed population of the two areas adds up to 169,000 while the residents reach 240,000, retaining a basically good balance.

The Sun Hung Kai Hub Complex Project, the first Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperative project in Qingsheng, launched in June of this year with an investment totaling 34 billion yuan ($4.79 billion).

The cluster has now attracted various major projects including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), the Internet Protocol Version 6 root server and the International Artificial Intelligence Value Innovation Park.
