New landmarks show Nansha’s happiness index

Updated: 2019-10-09

Guangzhou’s Nansha district was recently shortlisted as one of China’s happiest places in 2019. In response, local media invited over 30 netizens to join an off-line activity on Sept 28 to experience Nansha’s sense of happiness at its four newly-established landmarks.

The first stop was the Pearl Bay Development Exhibition Center which is considered an important facility for demonstrating the Nansha New District and showing off the pilot free trade zone.

People can learn about the background of the district’s development and experience the changes brought by the technologies through the glass-free 3D monitors.

The visitors next went to the China Communications Construction Cruise Culture Exhibition Hall to experience the local sea culture. The eye-catching design model of the Nansha International Cruise Ship Home Port caught everyone’s attention.

The terminal’s general architectural image was inspired by a whale leaping into the air and the building’s façade design was highlighted with local intangible cultural heritage Gambiered Guangdong Gauze, a kind of valuable silk fabric dubbed “soft gold”.

“I can’t wait to see the opening of the home port on Nov 17, when the four cruise lines to Southeast Asia will be accessible,” said a netizen participant.

When the visitors first entered the Nansha Intelligent Transportation Center, they quickly noted the Urban Traffic Brain which started operation from the beginning of this year.

The brain made it convenient for the travelers to decide whether certain road segments were congested, whether a particular vehicle was breaking the rules or what the general traffic patterns were.

The last lag of the activity was GAC Toyota, a joint automobile venture co-founded by GAC Group and Toyota Motor Corporation.

It only takes the plant 58 seconds to assembly a new car. This is the speed of world-class vehicle manufacturing.

Notably, there exists an ANDON system in the assembly shop to guarantee production quality. The workers can pull the ANDON rope to call the group leader if any problem is found.

The activity participants expressed their surprise at Nansha’s development, and appreciated that the emerging new facilities make the local people’s lives better and easier.
