' Jade pillow ' , ' inkstone ' to decorate Nansha' s image

Local media in Guangzhou' s Nansha district rolled out a large all-media report program on Aug 16 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of People's  Republic of China.

The program aims to trace the development path of Nansha in the past 70 years by recording a selection of 70 landmarks, innovation achievements and representative figures in freehand sketches, pictures and videos.

The first to-be landmark is the Nansha Archives Information Planning Exhibition Center, which seems like a jade pillow dropped beside the lake when seen from the air. Its opening is anticipated forthe end of this year at the soonest.

The construction is divided into five parts: a national comprehensive archive, a planning exhibition hall, a real estate archive, an urban construction archive and a local chronicle archive.

It will play its partsas the district’s patriotism education base, a planning exhibition center and an academic research institution when finished.

The New Nansha Library, estimated to be completed by Sep 30, is another high-profile construction.

The inkstone-like library will be a medium-sized public library to serve a million people with 900,000 books.

“This landmark is anintegral part of a city due to its mark of local culture and the bonds between the city and itsresidents. It will accelerate talents’ gathering,” said Zheng Tianxiang, a professor from Sun Yat-Sen University.

“When I was a child, going to the Nansha Library with mom was the happiest thing for me. I will certainly take mom with me to go to the new library, and I hope to feel the changes in the city,” said a local resident named Xiao Jun.
