Nansha’s expenditures on finance and technology in 2018 totaled more than 1.2billion yuan($184.36 million), with the proportion devoted to R&D accounting for from 3.0 percent to 3.2 percent.
The number of high-tech enterprises grew from 54 in 2014 to 475 in 2018. Nine companies have been identified as provincial-level new R&D institutions and Nansha has become a gathering place of scientific research institutions.
Since 2005, many such institutions have found a home in the district of Guangzhou. The Guangzhou Municipal Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) signed a strategic cooperation agreement that brought CAS’s Industrial Technology Research Institute to the district.
Nansha has also instituted three new types of research and development institutions: the research institutes of the CAS, domestic universities and international science and technology cooperation centers.
It has gathered ten scientific research institutions, nine of which have been identified as provincial-level new research and development institutions.
By the end of 2018, there were 11 existing technology business incubators in Nansha district and four maker-spaces.
