Guangzhou Development District / Huangpu district achieved remarkable progress in 2024, driving technological innovation and economic growth while advancing infrastructure and cultural development.

Economic progress and innovation

With over 20,000 tech enterprises, more than 2,800 National High-tech Enterprises, and 88 listed companies, Huangpu is now home to 40 percent of Guangzhou's listed companies and generates nearly 40 percent of its industrial output and 14 percent of its GDP.

As of 2024, the district has established the largest incubator cluster in South China and has ranked first in technological innovation capacity among state-level economic and technological development zones for five consecutive years.

Anchored by five hundred-billion-yuan-level industrial clusters and three ten-billion-yuan-level industrial clusters, the district has a gross industrial output value exceeding 860 billion yuan ($118 billion) and accounts for approximately 40 percent of Guangzhou's value-added industrial output.

Reforms and cultural development

In Nov 2024, the newly revised Regulation on the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone came into effect, providing a solid institutional foundation for a new wave of reforms in the Guangzhou Development District.

Huangpu is also making steady progress in urban village renovation. To date, approximately five million square meters and over 40,000 units of resettlement housing have been built, benefiting more than 40,000 households of relocated residents.

The district's cultural heritage continues to flourish, with the number of representative intangible cultural heritage items increasing by nine this year, bringing the total to 44. Among the new additions are the Guangfu Dragon Dance, Huangpu Egg Craft, and the Huangpu Tanka Cake-making Technique.

Improving livelihood and infrastructure

In 2024, the Yongjiu Expressway and the Dashabei Extension Line opened, respectively linking six key industrial parks and achieving full dual-direction, four-lane connectivity along Dashabei Road in Huangpu.

The district also saw a significant expansion of hospitals, with the addition of high-quality hospitals such as the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Knowledge City Branch) and Guangzhou Dermatology Hospital (Huangpu Branch).

2025 resolution

Looking ahead to 2025, Guangzhou Development District will focus on five key areas – the upgrading of traditional advantageous industries, the expansion of emerging industries, strategizing for future industries, the integrated development of digital and real industries, and the advancement of modern service industries – to build a modern industrial system supported by the real economy and accelerate the formation of new productive forces.
