The Fuxu Ancient Canal in Huangpu district is set to undergo renovation in the near future.
According to historical records, the Fuxu Ancient Canal dates back to the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), although its specific historical trajectory has not been fully archaeologically confirmed.
The Hengjiao River is currently the only east-west watercourse in the Fuxu Ancient Canal area, stretching from the Nanhai Temple in the west to Guishan in the east, with a total shoreline length of 6.5 kilometers.
The renovations will focus on a research area with a longitudinal depth of approximately 500 meters along the Hengjiao River, aiming to promote efficient integration of resources in the ancient canal area.
The Fuxu Ancient Canal has carried Guangzhou's spirit of openness over the past millennium, connecting it with the world and historically supporting its economic development.
In modern times, with industrialization advancing, the function of the canal has shifted, but its historical significance remains irreplaceable. The Guangzhou municipal government has begun to focus on the protection and development of the Fuxu Canal, considering it an important part of Guangzhou's cultural revival.
The Fuxu Ancient Canal area will address a total of eight breakpoints on both sides, connect 10 km of greenway spaces along the riverside, rejuvenate 0.54 square km of the surrounding area, and create a community space for all ages.
