The east branch of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhongshan (Sun Yat-sen) University, located in Huangpu district, is set to undergo a major expansion and renovation.
According to the latest announcement, the project is expected to commence in 2024 and be completed and operational by 2027. The development will add 1,200 beds and construct a total floor area of 172,000 square meters, with an estimated total investment exceeding 2.2 billion yuan ($338.46 million).
It stands as the most comprehensive tertiary-level hospital in the eastern part of Guangzhou, offering a wide range of medical services to people in the region. In recent years, with the population growth in Huangpu, medical demand has surged, rendering the existing 560 beds insufficient.
With the upcoming enhancements, the hospital is poised to be developed into a world-class national medical center with distinct Chinese characteristics, aiming to deliver even better medical services to the wider public.
