Xinhua: Provincial animal research center begins construction in Huangpu

A provincial animal testing center began construction in Guangzhou's Huangpu district on March 11, and is expected to be put into use in December 2022.

With a floor area of 25,000 square meters, the 3,961 sq m research center is being jointly established by the Guangdong Laboratory Animals Monitoring Institute and Bioland Laboratory.

It will conduct frontier scientific research on laboratory animals to support scientific and technological innovation in stem cells, brain science and precision medicine, and to boost the development of biomedical industrial clusters, said Zhu Caiyi, head of the Guangdong Laboratory Animals Monitoring Institute.

Gong Guoping, head of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, noted that the research center is of great importance in terms of increasing Guangdong's innovation capacity and its international competitiveness in biomedicine.
