A host of high-end projects were attracted to settle in Huangpu. They include a lab led by renowned Chinese respiratory scientist Zhong Nanshan, a traditional Chinese medicine research institute led by Zhang Boli, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a national technological innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In addition, the district has been actively ramping up cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, prompting the free-flow of innovation factors. For instance, it has set up a scientific achievement transformation fund to boost the industrial, academic and research collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and issued a series of policies to support innovation and entrepreneurship among Hong Kong and Macao youth.
