Updated : 2021-02-02

The Guangzhou Huangpu Free Trade Zone was officially launched on Feb 1 after it passed the acceptance of eight departments, including Huangpu Customs, the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province.

The Huangpu FTZ was transformed from Guangzhou Bonded Logistics Park with the approval of the State Council on May 17, 2020. Its scope will be expanded from bonded logistics to processing, trade, R&D, testing, maintenance, exhibitions, sales and services. A global warehouse, a global bonded maintenance center, a bonded R&D center, and a bonded exhibition and trade center for artworks will be built there.

In addition to preferential policies and streamlined customs clearance procedures, the new centers will enjoy convenient transport, as the FTZ is in the proximity of Xinsha Port, Huangpu New Port and the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Special Cooperation Zone of Intelligent Manufacturing. East Huangpu Road and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway are reachable in 10 minutes, while Shenzhen, Foshan and Dongguan are all reachable in one hour.

After the approval of the establishment of Huangpu FTZ, the area has seen a surge in enterprises and projects. Construction of a global artwork trading center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has been completed, and a liquid-crystal-display screen manufacturer has settled in the zone. A group of high-technology, high-added-value projects in areas including unmanned aerial vehicle maintenance are also lining up to move in.
