Huangpu boasts great appeal to overseas talents

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has attracted great attention during the 2020 Convention on the Exchange of Overseas Talents and the 22nd Guangzhou Convention of Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology, which took place at Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center on Dec 18 and 19.

A large number of high-tech products were on display at the Huangpu pavilion to showcase local scientific and technological innovation capability. They included the unmanned aerial vehicles of EHang, the aerial display screens of Kangyun Technologies, the palm recognition of Melux Technology, and the wafers of CanSemi Technology.

In addition, the star anti-COVID-19 pandemic products brought by KingMed Diagnostics, Jet Bio-Filtration, and Xiangxue Pharmaceutical were also very popular.

The district has great appeal to entrepreneurship projects due to its prominent business environment, all-around policy support, as well as its amiable atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship. An overseas talent surnamed Wang acquired information on tax and rent policies with the hopes to settle his project in Huangpu due to the robust development of the local biomedicine sector.

In addition to offering a warm welcome to entrepreneurship projects, Huangpu provided nearly 800 jobs for overseas talents at the event, which included high-end positions like head of research institutes and president of secondary schools.

On aggregate, about 3,000 people from overseas attended the event, with 3,500 projects. The participants covered 23 countries and regions including Canada, the United States, Australia, and Britain, and the amount of people with a PhD degree or above accounted for 54.9 percent of the attendees.
