The Guangzhou Huangpu Marathon, which will kick off on Dec 22, has applied various high-tech measures to this year's event, utilizing local advantages in developing technologies.
A palm print recognition system developed by Melux, a Huangpu-based technology company, will be used in the registration of competitors. Competitors only need to put their palms on the machine and show their identity cards, while the machine will automatically record their palm print.
Compared with traditional facial recognition methods, scanning palm prints are more accurate. "It can avoid cheating in the marathon," said Xie Qinglu, founder of Melux.
Xie added that the technology will be applied in more commonly used areas.
While the Guangzhou Huangpu Marathon is named after the district, it is not limited to being an administration level competition. It has gathered 3,381 volunteers from all over China, noted the person in charge of the volunteer work for the Huangpu Marathon.
