A provincial demonstration base for the industrial internet to be built in Guangzhou, capital of China’s Guangdong province, was launched at a ceremony held in Huangpu district and Guangzhou Development District (GDD) on Jan 17.
The move shows Guangdong’s high hopes for the industrial internet sector. According the the ceremony, the project will result in a state-level demonstration base.
At the event, the GDD administrative committee signed an agreement with the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) to draft a plan on developing an industrial internet demonstration base and set up an innovation center, an industrial fund and an industrial internet academy.
According to the agreement, CAICT will support GDD with its technological advantages in industrial internet, 5G communication technology, intelligent manufacturing and smart cities.
"The ‘Made in China 2025’ plan has entered a new stage in which it is fully deployed, and the pace of implementation has been accelerated and further promoted,” CAICT President Liu Duo said in her speech at the ceremony.
She stressed that enterprises are enthusiastic about the new round of industrial revolution and eager to realize the intelligence-driven transformation and upgrading, adding that the intelligent manufacturing industry Internet provides a historic opportunity for China's manufacturing industry to leapfrog development.
Among the first state-level economic development zones in China, GDD enjoys a solid economic foundation, institutional advantages of reform and opening-up and advantages for independent innovation.
Huangpu district and GDD have been implementing the innovation-driven and “Internet Plus” strategies over the years.
Last year, a strategic agreement on constructing the industrial internet demonstration base and a state-level demonstration zone for the in-depth integration of manufacturing and internet was signed by the Guangdong Economic and Informatization Commission, the Guangzhou Municipal Government and GDD on Nov 21.
A plate-unveiling ceremony for a data research institute of CASICloud, a major industrial internet platform in China and the industrial internet headquarters of Ali Cloud, the cloud computing subsidiary of the Chinese online commerce giant Alibaba Group, was held on that very day, marking the official operation of outlets of two industrial internet giants in Huangpu and GDD.
A group of enterprises also signed contracts for cooperation at the launch ceremony, which will help build an industrial internet ecosystem.
Ali Cloud will join hands with local industrial internet solution providers to create a platform offering services nationwide. A group of landmark projects and innovation application demonstration zones will be built based on the large backbone enterprises and industrial clusters in Guangdong.
CASICloud will construct industrial internet and industrial data and promote the integration of the new generation information technology and manufacturing.
In addition, an industrial internet big data innovation platform, a cloud-computing industrial internet platform for small and medium-sized enterprises in GDD and the Guangdong Industrial Internet Public Platform went online at the launch ceremony as well.
According to the local authorities, Huangpu district and GDD plan to build an ecosystem that combines the industrial internet, industrial big data, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as cooperation between government, production, universities and applications in the next three years.
Li Xiangning, deputy director of the telecommunication administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Zhou Yawei, member of the Guangzhou municipal Party standing committee and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Guangzhou Development District, and some 300 entrepreneurs attended the event.
