Zhan Decun, director of the foreign affairs office of the Guangzhou municipal government, was invited to attend online the celebrations marking the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, as well as the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Friendship City relationship between Guangzhou and Recife on Aug 15.

To mark the occasion, Guangzhou mayor Guo Yonghang sent a congratulatory letter to Recife mayor Joao Campos, expressing hope that the two cities will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation.

Yan Yuqing, Chinese consul general in Recife, said that Aug 15 this year also marks the third anniversary of the establishment of Chinese Immigration Day in Recife. "China has always been carrying out cooperation with Brazil on the basis of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit," she said.

Yan also said that local exchanges are an important foundation for bilateral relations. This year coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the relationship between Guangzhou and Recife. The two sides have vigorously promoted local exchanges between China and Brazil through mutual official visits, economic and trade benefits, as well as cultural exchanges, which can be regarded as a model of friendly exchanges. 

The Chinese Consulate General in Recife is willing to team with the two cities to build green, smart, and safe cities so that the high-quality development achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative can benefit residents of the two cities, Yan noted.

Zhan said that Guangzhou, Recife, and other Brazilian Friendship Cities have carried out fruitful exchange activities in recent years, with their relationships continuing to deepen. He also expressed hope that the two cities will help each other, unite, and cooperate to jointly promote the building of a human community with a shared future.
