Fields of Guangzhou's blooming flowers were beamed across New York's iconic Times Square on March 11, brightening up the chilly US city which was about to be hit by a fierce snow storm.

Running weeklong until March 17, the 30-second clip entitled "Guangzhou, Flower City in Bloom" was broadcast on Xinhua's "China Screen".

Thanks to its subtropical climate, Guangzhou has flowers in bloom all year round, earning it the moniker "Flower City".

It is the first time Guangzhou has been promoted in Times Square, which is sometimes dubbed the "The Crossroads of the World", attracting 50 million visitors annually, and more than 330,000 people every day.

The clip plucks some of the very best of the Guangdong province capital to promote, such as its kapok flowers, Cantonese embroidery, the flower sea at Haizhu Lake, and the Canton Fair Complex -- host of the world's largest trade show.

The Guangzhou-developed and world's first self-driving super sports concept car was also featured, as well as the world-famous Canton Tower.

Guangzhou, the third largest city of China, has been earmarked as a millennium business center, and has grown into a diversified city featuring a high-tech, innovative, artistic and open economy.
