Talent, tech weave new glory for Hechi's silk industry
Hechi's traditional silk sector, once reliant on experience, now flourishes with 5,500 professionals and technological upgrades. Digital temperature control has replaced earthen stoves, stabilizing cocoon quality and doubling efficiency.
Dubbed "China's new silk capital", Hechi has driven industry transformation with talent and technology. Manual labor has been replaced by automated feeding and blockchain traceability, breathing new life into the sector.
Hechi emphasizes attracting talent through targeted policies: related majors are identified as urgently needed, and green channels are available for high-level experts. A 5 million yuan ($695,000) talent fund supports housing and education for elites, while 12 national experts work to address technical gaps in areas like printing and dyeing.
Vocational training strengthens the workforce by offering targeted skills development. "Sericulture experts" deliver on-site guidance, while craftsman schools blend theoretical learning with practical application to train skilled workers. In addition, local colleges provide silk-related majors, ensuring a consistent supply of talent.
Technological innovation and cross-industry integration drive growth. Smart farming equipment enhances production, while concepts like "mulberry field fish farming" boost income. Incorporating cultural elements into silk products helps expand sales to Europe.
In 2024, the industry's processing output value hit 4.617 billion yuan, supporting 220,000 households. Formerly impoverished families now earn over 50,000 yuan annually, driving rural vitalization.
From smart temperature systems to culturally inspired silk products, Hechi’s silk industry shines with talent and tech, weaving a bright future for the region.
