Hechi Population
The city of Hechi is home to a population of 3,417,945, according to data released by the leading group on the seventh national population census of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on May 13.
Compared with the 3,369,251 people recorded during the sixth national population census in 2010, the total number increased by 48,694 over the decade, with an increase of 1.45 percent, and an average annual growth rate of 0.14 percent.
Hechi is home to a number of ethnic minority groups. There are 2,868,516 people from ethnic minorities in the city, accounting for 83.93 percent of the population. Among them, the number of Zhuang is 2,230,035, accounting for 65.24 percent of the total; the population of Yao is 4,012,559, accounting for 11.74 percent; and the population of Mulam and Maonan are respectively 122,084 and 59,511.
Among the city's permanent residents, the male population was 1,743,933, accounting for 51.02 percent; while the female population was 1,674,012, accounting for 48.98 percent.
The number of people living in urban areas was 1,533,999, accounting for 44.88 percent; while the number of people living in rural areas was 1,883,946, accounting for 55.12 percent.
As for education level, a total of 278,245 people in Hechi have received a university education, with 357,001 having completed high school. Compared with the sixth national census, the average number of years in education for residents aged 15 and over increased from 7.98 years to 8.67 years.
