Recently, the Nanning branch of the China Mobile Data Center was selected as one of the national new data centers, becoming the first national new data complex to be located in Guangxi in Southern China.

The facility is widely said to be one of the most important projects in the China-ASEAN Information Harbor, costing 2.5 billion yuan ($362 million), with a floor space of about 106,000 square meters.

The project is based in Guangxi and will deal with the ASEAN countries that trade with China.

It will host an international communications network system and an important network hub connecting China and ASEAN, being a key project for the development of new infrastructure in Guangxi.

The first phase of construction kicked off in April last year, with over 150,000 construction machines that can serve more than 20,000 enterprises on the internet, as well as through voice recognition and animes.

The Nanning area of the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is promoting the construction of the city complex of the China-ASEAN Information Harbor to develop its big data industry.

Over the past three years, an estimated 5,000 digital economy enterprises have moved there and the annual growth rate of the core industry scale has risen above 30 percent.

During the same period, the fixed assets investment in the core of the Nanning base of the China-ASEAN Information Harbor exceeded 34.8 billion yuan, while the economic scale of its specialist platform exceeded 57 billion yuan.

Moving forwards, the center plans to build five big data centers, four completed projects and one ongoing project, including two major projects.

The total investment will be 7.3 billion yuan and the projected number of machines will exceed 57,000.
