Chongzuo area of the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone has made frequent innovative achievements in border trade, customs clearance innovation, and cross-border legislation by strengthening its use of big data.

Through the application of big data technology, the Chongzuo area has built a smart logistics management and control platform as well as a smart monitoring control platform for cross-border trade vehicles at entry points.

The two platforms have promoted the innovation of logistics models at customs supervision ports. The pilot experience of this reform has been selected to be part of the third batch of excellent autonomous region-level system innovation outcomes, which was recently released by the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

"By monitoring the large screen, you can know the trajectory, cargo, and operation information of vehicles at the entry and exit points at any given time," said an official from the customs supervision department of Youyiguan Port.

He added that the number of staff members being dispatched from the supervision center has been reduced by half, and the average customs clearance time of trucks has been reduced by 37 percent since the launch of the smart monitoring control platform in September.

Chongzuo area has also implemented reform and innovation in the use of cross-border RMB and expanded the scale of China-Vietnam cash transfers and border trade transactions. As of August this year, cross-market trade transactions between China and Vietnam have been completed with a total value of 6.9 billion yuan ($990.15 million).
