China, ASEAN establish comprehensive strategic partnership

China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations decided to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership on Monday, a new milestone in the relations between the two sides. (Read more)
President Xi Jinping made the announcement at a virtual summit commemorating the 30th anniversary of their dialogue relations.

On good neighbors
- China has been and will forever be good neighbors, good friends and good partners with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
- China will unwaveringly see the ASEAN as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy, support its centrality in the regional framework and support the bloc in playing a greater role in regional and international affairs
On peace
- China firmly opposes hegemonism and power politics and China will never seek hegemony or to bully the small (Read more)
- China and the ASEAN countries should stick to dialogue instead of confrontation, and stick to partnership instead of alliance
- Joint efforts are needed to safeguard stability in the South China Sea and make it a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation
On vaccines
- China is ready to donate an additional 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to ASEAN countries
- China will contribute an additional $5 million to the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund, and also step up joint vaccine production and technology transfers
On development
- China is ready to provide ASEAN with another $1.5 billion of development assistance in the next three years to support ASEAN countries in the fight against COVID-19 and economic recovery
- China is ready to import more quality products from ASEAN countries, including buying up to $150 billion worth of agricultural products from ASEAN in the next five years
