Qinzhou Port in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region has set a new historical high in both its cargo throughput and container throughput in September this year, local media outlets reported on Oct 26.

The port completed a cargo throughput of 10.02 million metric tons in September with a year-on-year increase of 16.13 percent while its container throughput during the same time period stood at 430,900 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), a year-on-year increase of 12.03 percent.

Qinzhou Port, a main port for transporting containers in the Beibu Gulf, has now opened 48 container shipping routes including 25 for foreign trade, which basically covers major ports in the Chinese mainland, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.

In the first three quarters of 2021, Qinzhou Port completed a total port cargo throughput of 120 million tons, up 19.6 percent year on year. Of which, the foreign trade cargo accounted for 40.77 million tons, increasing by 16.5 percent and the figure for domestic trade expanded by 21.3 percent to 80.55 million tons.

Containers completed 3.23 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 19.6 percent, of which foreign trade completed 481,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 15.2 percent. The growth rate of container and cargo throughput continued to maintain the leading position in the country.

The soft environment of Qinzhou Port continued to be optimized. The auto parts exporting business and importing recycled paper pulp on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor is progressing in an orderly manner, which has injected new momentum into the growth of port throughput.

From January to September, the port has completed a total fixed asset investment of 16.64 billion yuan ($2.6 billion), which is a year-on-year increase of 48.5 percent.
