Guangxi cities release 2023 economic data

Fourteen cities in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have recently announced their regional GDP data for 2023, with four cities achieving a GDP exceeding 200 billion yuan ($28 billion).

In 2023, Guangxi's GDP reached 2.72 trillion yuan, representing a 4.1 percent increase over the previous year. The added value of the primary industry grew by 4.7 percent, contributing 19.5 percent to the economic growth; the added value of the secondary sector went up by 3.2 percent, contributing 24.9 percent to the economic growth, while that of the tertiary industry increased by 4.4 percent, contributing 55.6 percent to the economic growth.

The added value of large-scale industries in the entire region grew by 6.6 percent, an increase of 2.4 percentage points over the previous year, with traditional vital sectors such as chemicals, non-ferrous metals, ferrous metals, and electricity showing strong development momentum. 

The added value of the service industry in the entire region grew by 4.4 percent, an increase of 0.3 percentage points over the previous three quarters, contributing 2.3 percentage points to the GDP growth.

Nanning, Liuzhou, and Guilin remain the top three economically strong cities. Nanning became the first prefecture-level city in Guangxi to surpass 500 billion yuan in economic aggregate. In 2023, the city's GDP reached 546.91 billion yuan, a 4 percent increase over the previous year, firmly holding the top spot in the entire region.
