Local law enforcement officers spotted two groups of Chinese white dolphins at Rugen Conservation Area in Beihai's Hepu in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on May 17.

The two groups include a total of over 10 Chinese white dolphins, with the majority of them being black and grey, according to officials.

Rugen Conservation Area has been working with Nanjing Normal University on whale and dolphin surveys in protected maritime regions since 2003, with around 20 expeditions organized each year. During the last 20 trips, officials have seen Chinese white dolphins on 70 to 80 percent of them.

Chinese white dolphins mainly live off the coast of Southeast China and have long been regarded as "pandas in water". Rugen Conservation Area contains 150 white dolphins and is their fourth largest habitat in China.
