The 2021 Nanning International Elite Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was launched both online and on-site in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on June 25, and drew an audience of more than 40,000 from home and abroad.
It is expected to lure more innovative and entrepreneurial overseas talents and projects to Nanning, boosting the high-quality industrial development of the city.
The competition, the first of its kind for overseas talents in the region, has been held for three consecutive years since 2018. Previous competitions have attracted more than 1,200 talents from over 30 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia, to showcase their projects.
Since 2018, the competition has held road shows in areas with rich innovation resources such as Boston in the US, London, Frankfurt in Germany, Beijing and Shenzhen, with 142 projects selected to compete in the finals. More than 20 of them have since settled down in Nanning for further development.
Projects participating in this year's event mainly cover five sectors, namely the new generation of electronic information, advanced equipment manufacturing, biological medicine and big health, new energy and new materials, and modern agriculture.
Modern agricultural projects will showcase at the event for the first time this year, with the aim of further boosting rural revitalization.
Preliminary contests will take place this year in Beijing, Shenzhen and Nanning, and the final will take place in Nanning on Sept 1. Those winning the first prize in the final can get a subsidy of up to 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) and no less than 500,000 yuan to relocate to Nanning.
