Guangxi saw on-site sales of 13.74 million yuan ($2.15 million), a real contract value of nearly 1.7 billion yuan, and an intended contract value of 3.6 million yuan at the 4th China International Tea Expo, which was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on May 21-25.
It also won first place in terms of on-site product sales, the contract signing amount and its total trade sales.
"We were well prepared this time and have worked hard to show off the charms of Guangxi tea to consumers," said Wei Binhua, head of the market and information office of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Hengxian Jasmine Tea, a product that was included in the first batch of "geographical indications protection" under a bilateral agreement between China and the European Union (EU), attracted the attention of the Irish Ambassador to China at the expo.
"Hengxian Jasmine Tea has a strong fragrance and is good for your health. I like it very much and have recommended it to many friends," said Chen Wangdan, a teacher of "tea arts" at Wenzhou Wangdan Tea Ceremony Training Studio.
Guangxi is one of the regions with the best combination of temperature, light and water resources in China. Its area of land that is rich in selenium and germanium is the largest in the nation, giving it the title "Longevity Tea Town".
In recent years, the region has been promoting the development of its tea industry and expanding the "Longevity Tea Town" brand.
The tea plantation area in Guangxi stood at 1.32 million mu (88,000 hectares) at the end of 2020, and it had a tea output of 88,300 metric tons. The comprehensive output value of the tea industry was about 26 billion yuan, and there were more than 500 registered tea trademarks.
According to the 2020 Chinese Brand Value Evaluation Information, the integrated brand value of Hengxian jasmine flower and Hengxian Jasmine Tea reached 20.69 billion yuan, making it the most valuable agricultural product brand in Guangxi.
The brand value of Liubao Tea stands at 3.23 billion yuan in 2021, an increase of 600 million yuan over the previous year and 25th largest in the country.
