The Guangxi Branch of the Lancang-Mekong Agricultural Cooperation Center was established in Nanning on June 8, aiming to promote agricultural science and technology exchanges, economic and trade exchanges, as well as training of agricultural and rural talents in the Lancang-Mekong region.

The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) launched in 2016 as a new type of subregional cooperation mechanism, jointly created by the six countries in the Lancang-Mekong Basin and an important platform for those countries to build the Belt and Road.

According to the Guangxi Agriculture and Rural Affairs Department, Guangxi has successively carried out projects in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and other countries, including the China-ASEAN crop experimental station and overseas agricultural cooperation demonstration area. Moreover, 50 enterprises of Guangxi have launched agricultural investment, as well as science and technology cooperation in Lancang-Mekong countries, with the total investment exceeding $900 million.

The newly established Guangxi branch will undertake the coordination and implementation of the Lancang-Mekong Fund agricultural projects in the region. It will carry out agricultural, scientific, and trade exchanges, as well as the training of talents related to agriculture and rural areas in the Lancang-Mekong region.

It will also promote interactive exchanges between senior officials of the agricultural departments of countries in the region.

In the future, relying on the Guangxi branch of the Lancang-Mekong Agricultural Cooperation Center, the region will further integrate policies, funds, and human resources, as well as strengthen the connection with customs and other departments to play a leading role in the cooperation between Southwest and South-central China and Lancang-Mekong countries in terms of cooperation in platform construction and the cross-border agricultural economy.
