A Lantern Festival light show is currently underway at the Nanning Garden Expo Park and will run until Feb 24. This is the first time that the park has offered a night tour.

The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on Feb 19 this year.

Thirteen large lantern sets themed around the Chinese New Year, local culture, tourism and folk arts have been set up throughout the park. They were all created by craftsmen from Zigong, the "Home of Lantern Art".

Most lantern components are made from energy-saving lamps and environmentally friendly materials such as recycled beverage bottles.

In addition to the light show, a myriad of celebratory activities and prizes are also on offer. They include a night parade, riddle-solving, yuanxiao (glutinous rice balls) sampling, and family photo shoots.
