The overstocked pineapples in Xuwen county, Zhanjiang finally found an outlet thanks to a series of prompt measures taken by the local government to help farmers sell their products and stabilize the market.

A number of this year's pineapples are not up to standard and thus cannot be sold on the market for consumption or as raw materials for processed products. The cold air outbreak before the Spring Festival, as well as recent rainy weather, appear to be the most significant factors behind this pineapple slump.

An oversupply of pineapples is another reason for the overstocking and price drop. This is caused by pineapple farmers who, after making a fortune last May due to the soaring price of pineapples, expanded their planting area this year. Approximately 120,000 to 150,000 tons of pineapples will come into season within the next 10 days alone.

For those quality pineapples, the Xuwen government has contacted large-scale wholesalers, e-commerce platforms, and logistics enterprises such as SF Express to expand sales channels and minimize losses. Local official Ouyang Guang visited various places in Zhanjiang and Beihai to secure more orders from pineapple processing companies.

Meanwhile, the local government will also provide subsidies to farmers in difficult circumstances who cannot shake off poverty on schedule, or who have fallen into poverty due to the overstocked pineapples.
