Traditional furniture gets digital upgrade in Guangdong
Promoting digital and intelligent development in the traditional furniture industry will be of great importance to forming an innovative and competitive furniture industry cluster in Dalingshan township of Dongguan, Guangdong province, according to a local government official.
"We will actively guide leading furniture enterprises to start digital transformation by carrying out the research and development of smart home furniture," said Huang Zhili, deputy head of Dalingshan.
Dalingshan, a core area of the furniture industry cluster in the Pearl River Delta region, currently has more than 390 furniture companies, with more than 100,000 professionals engaged in the furniture industry.
Dalingshan's export of furniture has led among townships across the country for years since it started to introduce foreign investment and technology to accelerate development of the industry in the 1980s.
According to Huang, the local government has issued a series of financial policies to support local furniture companies upgrade their technologies and accelerate their digital and intelligent transformation.
"We will also develop new business forms, such as promoting furniture along typical local tourism routes," Huang said during a recent furniture promotion conference held in Dalingshan.
During the conference, a number of local furniture companies have signed agreements with the local government to expand their production capacity and establish new innovative furniture industrial zones.
