Guangdong province in South China added 5.47 million kilowatts of offshore wind power capacity in 2021, up year-on-year more than five times and supporting Guangdong province's green development, Guangdong Power Grid Co said in a statement on Thursday.

The figure represented nearly one-third of the country's total new offshore wind power capacity last year, it said.

To further develop wind power, China Southern Power Grid, parent company of the Guangdong unit, will build a test base in coastal Guangdong to meet the growing demand this year, the statement said.

Rapid development of wind power will help Guangdong's sustainable economic growth in the years to come, it said.
