Shows commemorating Beethoven to be staged in Guangzhou
Guangzhou-based Xinghai Concert Hall and Guangzhou Opera House will team up next year to present all the major works of Ludwig van Beethoven to mark the 250th anniversary of the German composer's birth.
Eighty works by Beethoven, including nine symphonies, 32 piano sonatas, 10 violin sonatas, five cello sonatas, 16 string quartets, five piano concertos, and an opera will be staged in 25 shows at the two prestigious performance venues.
More than 500 musicians from countries including China, Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria will perform the works.
The shows will feature the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanghai Quartet, Artis-Quartett Wien, and the Brodsky Quartet, as well as the composer and musical director of the New York Philharmonic Jaap van Zweden, the violinist Leonidas Kavakos, and pianists Rudolf Buchbinder and Boris Berezovsky.
