Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City
The Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (SSGKC) is another iconic Sino-Singapore project along with the Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco City. The SSGKC project was jointly initiated by leaders from Guangdong and Singapore to serve as a strategic development platform and a model for economic transformation and industrial upgrading. The groundbreaking ceremony for the SSGKC was held on June 30, 2010.
SSGKC is a unique, vibrant and sustainable city that is highly attractive to both talents and knowledge-based industries. In the next 20 years, SSGKC, covering an area of 123 square kilometers, is expected to house a resident population of 500,000 and will provide an environment conducive to living, working, studying and engaging in recreational activities.
The SSGKC is centered around the IAB (Next generation of information technology, artificial intelligence and biological medicine) and NEM (new energy and new material) industries and is striving to develop an industrial cluster worth over 100 billion yuan ($15.8 billion).
Guangzhou International Medical Valley is located in the SSGKC and covers an area of two square kilometers. It will provide a cooperation platform between existing medical care resources in Guangzhou and high-end medical research institutes from Singapore, the United States and other developed countries.
