Short film contest connects youths from Guangdong, Taiwan

On May 18, the award ceremony for the Second Cross-Straits Youth Creative Short Film Contest was held at Guangzhou Media Harbor, Haizhu District, Guangzhou. The three finalists were chosen and their entries were screened to wide applause from the audience.

Cui Yongjia and his partner Mo Zhiqing from Guangdong received the most votes and took home the first prize of 20,000 yuan ($2,900) cash.

Cui shot a story about the protection of ancient buildings in Guangzhou and the dreams of older generations.

Cui said that he feels very happy and has learned a lot from this contest. He also said that during the contest he tried a lot of new things which paid off for him, and he will keep trying new things in the future. This is the second time Cui has taken part in the competition.

As noted at a media briefing for the contest earlier in the week, the top 10 contestants began their final 48-hour filming challenge on May 15.

They created their own themes from topics such as "scenery," "memory," "cuisine," "nostalgia," and "building dreams," as well as the locations that they shot at under the respective themes.

About the short film contest

For the preliminary rounds, the Second Cross-Straits Youth Creative Short Film Contest required all participants to submit their 20 to 180 second short story to show their concept and thoughts of "home" in China. A total of 489 entries from both Guangdong and Taiwan were received.

The contest was sponsored by Newsgd.com, Nanfang Plus App, and United Daily News Group, with the guidance of the Guangdong International Culture Association, the Guangdong Province Cross-Strait Exchange Promotion Association, the Guangdong Youth Federation, and the United Daily News Group Cultural Foundation.
