Canton Embroidery

Update:2016-11-09

Canton Embroidery, namely Yue Embroidery, is one of the four famous Chinese embroideries together with Su Embroidery, Xiang Embroidery and Shu Embroidery.

Yue embroidery was entirely developed in the Tang Dynasty. Ancient Chinese craftsmen used peacock feathers weaved together as embroidering thread to stitch the ornamental designs; horsetail was used to stitch the outline, making the works more expressive.

The designs of Yue embroidery are rich and complicated in content with bright colors and robust decoration. The embroidery is smooth and even. One type, gold and silver cushion embroidery, creates a magnificent three-dimensional effect.

Yue embroidery has a wide range of designs, the most common being birds worshipping the sun, dragons and phoenixes. Yue embroidery includes the Guang and Chao disciplines which have different stitching styles.
