2023 GSF summary conference held in Nansha

The summary conference of the 2023 Greater Bay Area Science Forum was held in Nansha district of Guangzhou city, Guangdong province, on July 21.  

The event was presided over by An Jianguang, deputy inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and attended by local officials and representatives from Nansha, the Guangzhou science and technology bureau, the Guangdong Science & Technology Cooperation Center and Nansha's science and technology bureau.

An stated that under the support and leadership of the Party and national leaders, and thanks to the collective efforts of various levels of government and the GSF secretariat, the 2023 Greater Bay Area Science Forum was held successfully. The forum comprehensively showcased the fruitful achievements of implementing the innovation-driven development strategy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, increased its international influence, gathered global scientific wisdom and strength, and created a favorable atmosphere of enthusiasm and reverence for science. Guangdong fully acknowledged the accomplishments of the GSF and hoped that through this summary conference, experiences would be carefully summarized to further enhance the work of the forum.

Nie Xiaowei, executive secretary-general of the GSF, introduced a series of important achievements and future development plans for the forum. According to the instructions of Leung Chun-Ying, vice-chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Bai Chunli, chairman of ANSO and president of the GSF, and Wang Xi, member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and deputy governor of Guangdong, the GSF secretariat will strengthen scientific planning, establish a forward-looking layout, and ensure effective implementation, striving to build the forum into a "Davos" of Chinese technology.

Chen Guoqing, deputy district mayor of Nansha, hoped that the secretariat will continue to play an important role in coordinating Hong Kong and Macao, linking the Greater Bay Area and facing the world. This will enhance its brand value with features of the GBA, high technology and internationalization.

During the summary conference, issues related to the acceptance of the Cooperation Agreement on the Joint Construction of Lingshan Forum Science Center of Guangdong Province, the operation of the permanent site, and the internationalization plan of the forum were all reported.

Attendees also held in-depth discussions and offered suggestions on building the GSF into a globally influential international organization, a national high-end sci-tech think tank serving high-quality development, a world-class talent center radiating the Greater Bay Area, and a platform that aggregates innovation resources for industry, academia and research. The attendees agreed that united efforts should be made to develop the GSF into an "international top-level IP" that achieves leapfrog development in talent pooling, scientific innovation, science popularization, strategic consulting and industry-academia-research integration.

During the conference, the secretariat of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum presented certificates of honor to representatives of the relevant departments, as well as to the secretariat staff members and interns.
