The sixth session of the fifth Jiuquan Municipal People's Congress and the fifth session of the fifth Jiuquan Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened on Jan 13 and Jan 12, respectively.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Jiuquan's regional GDP surpassed three successive 100-billion-yuan ($14 billion) milestones, with the 2025 figure projected to reach 110 billion yuan.

Huo Fu, executive deputy general manager of Gansu Kaisheng Daming Solar Energy Technology, suggested that Jiuquan should evolve from an energy exporter into a provider of technological solutions.
He emphasized the need to build new energy transmission channels and develop large-scale solar thermal storage projects to efficiently convert the Hexi Corridor's abundant wind and solar resources into stable, reliable green power.
