Foreign and local fishermen release fish in Zhoushan

Updated : 2026-01-21 (chinadaily.com.cn)

A conservation activity to release fish fry into the sea was held on Jan 19 at Lianhua Island in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province. In partnership with eight local fishing enterprises, 200,000 fry of the Daiquyang strain of yellow croaker were released into the sea.

More than 70 foreign fishermen took part, releasing the fry as both a symbolic act and a commitment to preserving marine life.

This activity is a continuation of Zhoushan fishermen's traditional practice of releasing fish for blessings, as well as a commitment to protecting the marine ecosystem.

Notably, 12 foreign crew members joined the release for the first time, standing alongside local fishermen in support of the concept of a "maritime community with a shared future."
